ABOUT TEEN CHALLENGE NEW MEXICO

The Teen Challenge of New Mexico facility promotes a homelike atmosphere with the average length of stay from 18 to 24 months. After arrival, each student learns about God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, followed with the Teen Challenge curriculum that teaches how to live the Christian life. It includes such studies as forty- nine “Character Qualities”, “Anger and Personal Rights,” “Growing Through Failure,” “God’s Plan for My Life,” “Attitudes,” “Love and Accepting Myself,” as well as many others. In addition the students have Computer Class, Music Class, Etiquette Class, and Physical Education. Every student learns how to do household chores properly. We purposely keep the student population small, so they can receive individual attention, support, help and love. In addition, we want to make sure they are challenged to grow spiritually, emotionally, mentally, academically, and socially.

Each student must complete 12 contracts of Teen Challenge Curriculum, the Re- Entry Phase, and an evaluation of overall performance to the satisfaction of the Staff and Director.
In Etiquette Class, students learn how to dress professionally, as well as proper respect for themselves, others, and authority. They learn life skills like work ethics, shopping for best purchases, discipline to wake up and be on time for work or school, general maintenance and upkeep of property.
Each student will continue their academic education. After adjusting to their new temporary home, they are tested for grade and comprehension level, enrolled in an accredited school (Lighthouse Christian Academy), where they can earn a High School diploma.
There is a Certified Advanced Personality Trainer with CLASSEMINARS, Inc. on staff to enhance students' Spiritual Life, Emotional Needs, Effective Learning Modes, Future Career Decisions, Personal Relationships, and Personality Strengths. God created individuals with traits that are different from anyone else. Students receive specific instructions for their specific needs.
Like any place of learning, it’s not how much time is spent at Teen Challenge, but rather whether they have completed and passed the assigned work.

HISTORY OF TEEN CHALLENGE
The ministry of Teen Challenge began in 1958 when Rev. David Wilkerson, author of “The Cross and the Switchblade” went to New York City to reach teenage gang members with God’s love. There in the heart of the big city slums, Teen Challenge was born. Now there are Teen Challenge Centers all over the United States - and others internationally - helping not only teens, but also adults, with life-controlling problems mainly in the area of drug and alcohol abuse.
